NTAC, Transgenders and Allies To Picket Over ENDA Betrayal

The National Transgender Advocacy Coalition is issuing a call to join our
members, members of other organizations and numerous individuals in
protesting the lavish October 6th annual HRC National Dinner in
Washington, DC. Representative Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, will
be featured as keynote speaker at the event.

Last week, after a hastily called "whip count" (where the majority party
whip polls members of committees or Congress to gauge whether
legislation has sufficient votes), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) stripped
Gender Identity from the original bill. This action was allegedly based on
the results of as yet unsubstantiated claims of not having enough support
for trans-inclusion.

Recently, Shannon Minter of the National Center for Lesbian Rights
(NCLR) authored and circulated a letter signed by more than 150 different
state and national organizations and submitted to House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi petitioning for a return to one inclusive bill for the Employment Non
Discrimination Act (ENDA), HR 2015 in its inclusive form.

From this effort has come a new ad-hoc campaign: United ENDA, the new
collective of over 150 organizations (www.unitedenda.org) that have
agreed to the principles of explicitly inclusive legislation submitted to
Congress.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), which claims to be the largest U.S.
LGBT civil rights organization, has not signed onto an endorsement of
the statement signed by the members of United ENDA, opposing the split
of the proposed bill into separate legislation – one for sexual orientation
and one for gender identity.

"We are very disappointed and angry that any civil rights organization
claiming to advocate for our rights can turn their backs on us when the
going gets tough," said Ethan St.Pierre, Board Chair of NTAC. "It
amounts to a betrayal, since HRC earlier promised to support only an
inclusive ENDA."

At the Southern Comfort Conference (SCC) in mid-September, HRC Exec.
Director, Joe Solmonese made a promise as keynote speaker that HRC
would not only support an inclusive ENDA bill, but would also oppose
any attempt at submitting a non-inclusive bill. While at SCC, HRC culled
many new memberships and donations from the transgender community.
"After removing gender identity from a bill that would have protected
millions of transgender Americans from discrimination in employment, the
message being sent to the entire Congress and to corporate America is
that it is acceptable to discriminate against transgender, intersexed, and
other gender variant Americans," NTAC Chair, St. Pierre added.

As a result of HRC's rescission of their promise three weeks earlier, the
only transgender ever seated on their Board of Directors, Donna Rose,
resigned October 2, 2007 in disappointment. Additional resignations from
the transgender community are continuing to come in, including Robbi
Cohn resigning from HRC's steering committee for the Carolinas.

In Rose's resignation, she stated, "The relationship between HRC and the
transgender community is one scarred by betrayal, distrust, and anger. I
have become a focal point for much of that frustration," she noted, adding
she "accepted that responsibility with the hope that I could help to
change [HRC]."

"I call on other like-minded board members, steering committee leaders,
donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers to think long and hard about
whether this organization still stands for your values and to take decisive
action."

All those who stand in solidarity with the transgender community,
including HRC Board members wishing to make a statement, are
welcome to join us on Saturday, October 6th at 4:30 p.m. before the Major
Donors Reception. The picketing will continue throughout the General
Reception and Banquet.

"We want to ensure people note that this is a non-violent protest, and that we should avoid working to our detriment by being profane or verbally

attacking," said NTAC Media Director, Vanessa Edwards Foster. "Icy
glares and stone cold silence work well.

"Bring out your unequal signs and let HRC and Barney Frank know that
we're quite aware of what they think of us."

The event will take place at the Washington Convention Center, 801
Mount Vernon Place, NW (near 9th St & Mass Ave) Washington DC. For
those coming in from outside of the city, this is on the Green Line at the
Mount Vernon Square / UCC stop.

"So I was driving down Chapman and I saw a blonde girl going to the store and two niggers -- one a known pimp, the other from outside the neighborhood, watching her. I drove down the street, talked to some of my workers, drove back, and I noticed the girl walking down the street with these two guys looking like they were following her. I parked a few houses away, talked to one of my workers, and began walking down the street to open some houses up for someone to clean.

Outside 1510 Chapman this guy from outside the neighborhood comes up behind the white girl and grabs her by her hair. The nigger pimp is watching. The big nigger -- about 6'4" and maybe 275 lbs -- starts cursing at her -- something about money and snitching. So I walk over.

"Are you all right?" I ask the girl.

"Motherfucker what the fuck you think you're looking at?" the big nigger says to me.

"I think I'm looking at something that needs the police," I say.

I start calling them. "No, don't call the cops" the white girl screams.

"Motherfucker carry your ass out of here," the big nigger tells me, walking towards me, making ape motions with his hands.

"Don't make me get my twelve gauge," I say.

"You got it on you motherfucker, you got it on you?" the nigger continues, still making ape motions.

"You wanna fight me?" I say, and laugh.

"Yeah motherfucker," and then he tried to poke me in my chest. I had his arm before his finger got three inches from me.

Then I look into his eyes. "I've killed niggers before motherfucker and I will kill again."
I let go of his arm. He stepped back. Then he turned around and started walking away.

9-11 answered in my other hand. I told them I was in a fight right then with a black pimp who was beating a white prostitute, phoning in description. He took of running, looking scared as a little girl. "Motherfucker Imma get my gat and kill yo ass" he shouted as he ran dow 16 St, towards an overgrown industrial park, long ago turned over to the woods.

Cops couldn' find him. He was almost certainly hiding in the bushes.

Wednesday a federal judge threw out some of the charges against white supremacist leader Kevin Strom.


Strom was accused of trying to entice a 10-year-old girl by sending her gifts and flowers. He was also accused of stalking the girl and her family.

But after the prosecution rested on Wednesday the judge decided to dismiss both charges. One charge of enticing a minor and an obstruction charge after Strom was accused of trying to intimidate his estranged wife.

Attorneys were not available for comment. Strom still faces charges for child pornography. The trial for those charges are scheduled for this January.

Strom enticement, intimidation trial begins

The founder of the white supremacist National Vanguard, Kevin Strom, 50, went on trial today for enticing a minor and intimidating a witness– the witness being his wife, Elisha Strom.

In a quavery voice, Elisha Strom, 32, testified about finding her husband naked and aroused, looking at photos of two girls whose heads had been transposed onto naked bodies. “They didn’t look right,” said Elisha of the girls, who were affiliated with the National Vanguard. “Their bodies didn’t match what they look like.”

Earlier, in motions regarding the introduction of the photos of the two girl singers, Judge Norman Moon declared that it was not illegal to look at the photos and said, “It’s not against the law to sit there naked.”

Elisha Strom also told of awaking October 17, 2005, to find her husband looking at images of a little girl. “I didn’t know what to do,” she testified. “I wanted to talk to someone.”

She had the phone in hand when her husband said he wasn’t going to let her make a call and then began choking her. “I hit him with the telephone,” she testified. His parents took a bloody Kevin Strom to the hospital.

About a year later, after reporting to the police her husband’s interest in photos of girls, Elisha Strom was arrested for assaulting Kevin, and she was served a flurry of legal complaints, including a protective order to stay away from Strom. These filings, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Gould, exemplify Kevin Strom’s attempts to intimidate a witness.

Also testifying were a 12-year-old girl, who the government says Strom was trying to entice into a sexual relationship, and her mother. Strom allegedly sent the girl anonymous gifts– a sweater and a Tim McGraw CD for Christmas 2005 in a package from “Santa Claus,” pink roses and white lilies on the girl’s 11th birthday, and another Christmas package in 2006 containing a Peter Pan DVD.

By the time the last package arrived, the mother had become so concerned she took it to the police. “I was really, really uncomfortable,” she says.

The Orange County girl and her mother had met Kevin Strom at the United Christian Academy, a Ruckersville private school, where his stepdaughter became friends with the then-nine-year-old. At the end of the 2006 school year, the mother moved the girl to public school in Orange.

The girl’s mother testified to an unease around Strom, but the examples raised few eyebrows in the courtroom. Strom gave her pictures of her daughter and his stepdaughter and invited her to coffee. The mom also reported seeing his maroon van driving by her house, seeing Strom one day, near the end of the school year, parking his van and standing behind a tree, and she testified that her daughter spotted him at the Orange County Fair in July 2006.

The 12-year-old alleged object of Strom’s adoration told the jury that he’d stopped her in the hall of United Christian Academy and asked why her mother wasn’t answering his phone calls. “I told him to stop calling, we weren’t going to pick up,” the middle schooler said.

The prosecution introduced Strom’s computers, which FBI forensic specialists said contained thousands of images. Among the items retrieved was a song to be sung to “Here We Come a Wassailing” with the lyrics, “Once I met a pretty girl, her name was [NAME OF 12-YEAR-OLD]… I will be showered with the kisses of [NAME] and we’ll be married.” In a second version of the song, the girl’s last name had been changed.

“The case isn’t nearly as sinister as the government makes it,” said Andrea Harris, Strom’s attorney, in her opening statement. She portrayed Elisha Strom as “quick to anger” and “violent,” and promised the jurors, “I think you’ll see he’s not guilty, and in fact, no crime was committed.”

Judge Moon adjourned for the day in the middle of Elisha Strom’s tearful testimony.

Upcoming: The contract between Kevin and Elisha Strom in which he promises to get counseling until he is cured of pedophilia.

Strom faces child porn charges in a separate trial in January.
