OIL AS THICK AS CHOCOLATE SYRUP

For the past month, a horrendous disaster has been taking place in the Gulf of Mexico. The effects on our environment and ecological system will be with us for decades.

It seems that no one knows what to do and those to blame must be held accountable.

May 20, 2010 – Yesterday, new pictures of the environmental impact from the flood of oil still pouring into the Gulf of Mexico were published, as some researchers continued to dispute BP's estimate of the amount of oil flowing from their ruptured well.

See video and slideshow HERE.

In the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and fire on April 20, 2010 that killed eleven workers and oil continues to spew into the Gulf of Mexico, only slightly abated by the insertion of a tube to siphon off oil from the broken well.

According to the Associated Press, "Steve Wereley, a mechanical engineer at Purdue University in Indiana, is sticking with his estimate that 3.9 million gallons a day is spewing from two leaks."I don't see any scenario where (BP's) numbers would be accurate," he said at a congressional hearing Wednesday. His estimate of the amount leaked to date, which he calls conservative and says has a margin of error of plus or minus 20 percent, is 126 million gallons -- or more than 11 times the total leaked from the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989. The official estimate is closer to 6 million gallons."

AP also reported, "Another researcher, Timothy Crone of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, said the latest video suggested a leak of at least 840,000 to 4.2 million gallons a day, though poor video quality made it difficult to come up with an accurate figure."

See the CNN video below as David Mattingly goes along with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal into the state's wetlands and describes the oil he sees, "Oil as thick as chocolate syrup."

Pictures in the slide show that give a graphic look at the worsening conditions in the Louisiana wetlands, come from that trip and Greenpeace sample collection work. Photos of the rescue of a baby Kemp's ridley sea turtle are provided by the Audubon Aquarium.

  2. That's right. They must continue drilling.

  3. This wouldn't be an issue if they were allowed to drill on the mainland...this particular deposit involved in the disaster is right up under the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf States.

In a way you could technically blame the enviromental wackos for this since they are the ones that demanded these things not be within eyeshot offshore.

Of course I am wasting my time stating all of this, since no one truly gives a damn anyway.

  4. Too many are too stupid to realize what is happening to our once great country.

  5. I deleted the first comment because I am sick and tired of watching people embarass themselves here. What is currently taking place is an ecological disaster of magnanimous proportion. You don't have to agree with me. You don't have to agree with the current finger-pointing and blame laying that is taking place in D.C. But, I think we must all agree that this disaster has far-reaching implications.

I grew up on the East Coast of South Florida and spent much of my time on the ocean and the shore of the Atlantic and the Gulf. I have a particular love of the ocean and all things related. Seeing this devastation is not only hear-breaking, but should scare the hell out of any thinking person.

This transcends liberal v conservative, right-wing v left wing, etc. It is a human and global issue. We ALL live here.

Nonsensical gibberish and ignorant rants just fall short of the mark when we are all faced with this crisis. The oil is still spewing, the lies are still being spread by both BP and the government, our entire ecological system is being unraveled and all some idiot can say is "Fuck the environment?" Well...fuck you because we are all about to be fucked without a kiss.

  6. Not many updates to this site of late.

  7. Maybe that's because I am sick and tired of dealing with people who choose to act like thugs and idiots rather that have serious discussion. Maybe that's because I have been busy in other areas where people are a lot more dedicated to their work and much more intellecutal in their debates. No worrying about which poster is Von, or who's gonna get raped in prison, or fake blogs and incapables trying to malign and attack the families of others.

Maybe its because I found that there are lots of people out there who really want to make a difference - a positive difference. And guess what...they're on both sides of the fence. But it's all good because they aren't neanderthals or wannabe Nazis - just people who like doing things rather than masturbating in front of the keyboard.

Oh...I'll still update here...but you'll just get the scraps that don't seem to fit anywhere else. Mostly the loony tune stuff since that's what you relate to bese.

  9. was the Gulf oil leak deliberate sabotage by ZOG-botz?

from the abv "link"....We are being manipulated to death. Whatever it takes to keep the money flowing from the hated goy slave state America. Take the BP "oil spill". What a laugh. A couple of the Navy divers that recently went down to inspect the leak came back up and were severely warned to keep their mouths shut about what they saw. One of them however, took some videos of the plume coming out of the ocean floor. I saw it. It can't go into that, but trust me, I saw it. The truth of it might break on the news, but I wouldn't hold my breath. My source has already been squelched.

What I saw was not an oil leak, but a volcanic vent! The vent was giving off a massive amount of steam and gas, but no oil! A little ways away from the vent is the BP pumping station. What really happened was that Obama and crew took advantage of the serendipitous volcanic vent, and simply opened a valve at the pumping station, creating the leak! They used the vent to hide the fact, making everyone think the oil was coming from the so-called "crack" in the oil deposit...

the only question is: was the "valve" permanently damaged or can it simply be turned off...?....thus, stopping the flow of oil?

  10. Excellent post by Nikki!

Regardless of what the right wing conservatives say, oil in the Gulf is a problem. Rush Limbaugh said just yesterday that the oil ammounted to only a thimble full once you consider the volumn of water in the gulf. Oh, just that much huh? I don't understand what he's comparing it to but let's suppose you drop a thimble full of oil into your next drink. Yummy!

People need to value and charish the truth. Sure, I nodd my head and agree with much of what I hear on right wing talk radio. But then there's that nagging sensation that I'm just listening to a red of a different shade. What brings it on? Lies. Outright lies. "Oil spills don't cause problems" is a good example. Seriously, that's pretty much what I heard said just yesterday. They are the same way about subjects like Iraq and Israel. Just lie. Flat out lie and since it's for what they believe is a good cause, it's okay. Not a cloud in the conservative sky, no sir. Big oil, big money, Zionism and empiralism are all causes worth lying for.

The thing is, lies can't cover up a big ass oil slick, no more than they can cover up all the bodies stacked up in the Middle East. Sad? Yes, but predictable. My final point is if a battle takes lies to win, it shouldn't be fought.

  11. It's cut and dry, BP is at fault. It's their oil rig. It was their specs that it was build by. And regardless of the matter, in the United States, a company is directly responsible for the actions of both their employees and their subcontractors.

How dare those European bastards drill for oil off our cost and when they fuck up they point the finger at American companies to blame.

How about this. We shut down every BP station in the country and boost the business of American owned Exxon, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, Hess, Texaco, etc.

Then we tax these companies based on the increase of sales leading to a 0% tax increase on the consumer. And use every penny of that money in the development of a hydrogen infrastructure that we will make with the ocean which covers 72 percent of the earth's surface.

No??? So you don't want to piss off England, huh?
