WE WERE RIGHT

The bigoted past of Ron Paul.
Post Date Tuesday, January 08, 2008

So...label us "liberal" but know that we were right. Last Wednesday night, Floyd Cochran and Nicole Nichols aired a Special Edition of Eye On Hate where we talked about Ron Paul, the Republican presidential hopeful. We spoke of the mob of thugs and degenerates who are lining up behind Paul and their strong-arm tactics. Today, a video of some of those followers was published on the internet showing them chasing and throwing things at Sean Hannity. We told you - and we called it right.

THE GLOVES HAVE COME OFF

Okay...I'm pissed and the gloves are coming off. Oh yeah - I have really been handling Ron Paul and his entourage of thugs with kid gloves whether you could tell it or not. But, that's over.

Now, I can't stand Sean Hannity and I find FOX News an exercise in bias and convolution. I think that keeping Ron Paul out of the New Hampshire debates was a big mistake on their part - and really wish they would have let him show his ass to the American people once more. Regardless of being somewhat liberal in my politics and world view, I don't like censorship or depriving candidates of their rights to free speech.

However...the cult-like gathering of thugs who attacked Hannity on behalf of Ron Paul should all be neutered. What a truly despicable display of mob mentality that was. Of course, they simply made the point that many of us on the internet have been trying to make when it comes to Ron Paul supporters. Being enthusiastic is one thing, but acting like a pack of wild dogs in the name of patriotism is something altogether different.

As many have already articulated - Ron Paul zealots are making a mockery out of this process and are attempting to create a climate of fear and intimidation for those who disagree with Paul or who have criticisms. In short, they lack class and integrity and have put Paul in a much more negative light than he was already in.

Now...on top of everything else...they are attempting to equate this man with Martin Luther King, Jr. Videos have been popping up everywhere claiming that Paul and Dr. King are very much alike - well bullshit. As I waded through some of these blasphemes - I was enraged that the Paul campaign is attempting to exploit our celebration of a national hero into another "Money Bomb" for their Messiah.

While the supporters claim that this is not part of the “Official Campaign,” this move toward another attempted fund raiser is moving forward without an apparent hitch – and the videos are hitting the internet hard – without one word from Paul or his campaign headquarters. Of course, if you are Ron Paul, you don’t have to denounce anything because according to him, people are going to do what people are going to do. Which simply means, in this case, if it adds to the treasure trove who cares.

Principled? I think not. Ron Paul is neither principled nor smart. As a matter of fact, he may have just stepped right in the middle of the biggest cow patty in the pasture. While the delinquent miscreants over at the Vanguard News Network Forum are getting themselves all worked up over Paul sidling up with an African-American hero, the tea-cups over at Stormfront are trying to work this to their advantage.
Scottsman4096 viewed it this way…

“We really are marching in a parade that borders on surreal. Lets all keep in mind the objective and why we are all doing this. I can bear holding my nose when I see an MLK day fundraiser for Paul ( I won't donate on that day ) because in the end, Ron Paul needs their votes too. I joined a local meetup group to promote Ron Paul, and we're doing all kinds of activities to get the word out, sign distribution and waving, sidewalk chalking, trade shows, and mass mailings, but I've really had to bite my tongue a bit and keep my mouth shut about my WN. And I'm absolutely certain there are others ( one lacked enough tact not to name the jew in front of the group ). This is something we ALL need to take a lesson on if we want to be successful in the future : infiltration and subterfuge. If RP loses the nomination or election, we try something else, but for the meantime lets blend in with the "Berkeley freaks" and help sell the candidate.”

And there you have it. It’s a real game to these people. You see, they firmly believe that Paul will further their agenda and they realize that he isn’t even attempting to moderate or exercise any control over this campaign…hence Speak Out Right Now had this to say…

“A White nationalist will monitor where the donations are coming from and then will report back with an article that demonstrates that 95% of all donations originated from white liberals in white areas of the country. The same article will conclusively prove that balcks didn't contribute more than 5% of the donations in the name of their own hero, MLK.

“Blacks don't read. Black men do nothing on the Internet but view interracial pornography, and blacks aren't benevolent and altruistic people, they don't donate money to any cause but their own insatiable desires to fornicate.

“Remember, RP doesn't really control those that campaign for him. If someone wanted to, they coul;d easily start a "Algerian Midgets for Ron Paul fundraising campaign." It's simply a matter of doing so.”

Last Wednesday night (January 3, 2008) on Eye On Hate Radio Floyd Cochran and myself spoke of the mob of thugs behind Paul’s campaign and the strong-arm tactics being employed. We were the first to bring this to the general public. We were the first to say what others have thought better of. Now, we have the video. The angry mob screaming, chasing, and throwing things at Sean Hannity because Fox left Paul out of a debate – those were precisely who we spoke of. And we were right.

At 72 years of age, one would think that Ron Paul would at least realize that adopting a look of innocence and claiming no knowledge might work for a 7 year old – but a seasoned veteran of politics? How absurd.

After viewing the video, ask yourself what might happen should one of his hooligans believe that there was foul play or voter irregularities at a particular precinct. As yourself what that mob might be capable of if their numbers were to increase. Ask yourself if this is representative of the type of leadership America needs.

Read the statements by the racists on Stormfront who support Paul and ask yourself if he is capable of duplicity – of running a chameleonic campaign. And remember – silence = acceptance.

The gloves have definitely come off – and the “Ron Paul Revulsion Part II” will reveal even more about Dr. Ron Paul.

  1. So, let me get this straight...

You are against hate, unless it is towards people that YOU hate. Then it is both OK to hate and actually encouraged....

Hmm... thanks for making it clear. I won't be coming back.

Basically what your little hate-filled diatribe amounts to is you are no fan of Hannity, but the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

Perhaps you have absolutely NO idea what Hannity has done to Ron Paul and his supporters? I think you do... and you like the hate he spews at them.

  2. Nikki, are you drinking again? Haven't you sobered up after all those months of rehab?

You really need to take control of your life, dear. You look terrible in that photo.

  3. I am aware of what Hannity's company did to Ron Paul and I don't like it.

Ron Paul should not have been excluded from the debates, I agree.
But a mob of people chasing someone, throwing things only confirms that Ron Paul didn't belong in the debate.

Also the images of Ron Paul's goons chasing a talk show host doesnt convey a message of freedom but something more a kin to the Taliban or neo Nazis, who by the way support Ron Paul.

  4. huh? i didn't see ron paul chasing anybody in that video. so he doesn't belong in a debate because of the actions of some people that call themselves supporters?

how would you like to be associated with the actions of some of the people who may support you?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Actually, both Floyd and myself have said that excluding him was wrong. However, this is a primary for President of the United States of America which, I would think, would dictate a certain amount of decorum.

Whether you like it or not, Ron Paul has amassed a thug-like cult that has no class, no integrity and no self-control. If I were in Paul's position I would not be happy with their actions. But then...Ron Paul will probably claim he didn't know, or he can't be held responsible. Now, I really don't want someone like that leading the country.

The actions of that mob might just have put Ron Paul in an even more precarious position with the media - more precarious that is than what he has already done to himself.

Again...I cannot stand Sean Hannity and I have absolutely no love for Fox. I think they were wrong in excluding Paul. But, I think the angry mob says it all about what kind of people Ron Paul attracts.

  6. i still don't see your logic. i watch soccer. A LOT. especially Argentinian soccer. I love Boca Jrs., yet you should see how some of their more "passionate" fans act. it's repulsive. am i going to blame the team or the organization because they can't control their supporters? their job is to play a game, not babysit. same with ron paul. he wasn't there, but here i see you guys using the actions of some of his more "passionate" supporters in a very "passionate" environment in this country right now. sean turned around laughing at the end of the video. he obviously didn't feel threatened. following someone down the street yelling you suck (i didn't see anything being thrown as was claimed) isn't a very violent protest or anything. i've seen much, much, much worse. public figures should get this more often in my opinion.

this just happened and we haven't even heard from ron paul about it but we can blame him for it while he is focused on something else. it's easy. blame is easy. finger pointing. i see people do it all around me every day. get real

simple: youse'll have Civil War II on yr hands!...if itz OK for niggz to do that in Kenya, then it should be OK for white people, eh?

(Hannity, of course, is a cowardly mongel DOG!...some-wot "akin" to Floyd Fuck-Brain!...a man with any "ballz" would have 'faced down' that crowd and 'stated his case' and, if necessary, accepted some 'constructive criticism'!)

  9. "Whether you like it or not, Ron Paul has amassed a thug-like cult that has no class, no integrity and no self-control"

Nikki: i watched the video AGAIN!! i did not see projectiles. i saw a bunch of people (the majority young, both male and female) following sean hannity down the street yelling "You suck Sean"! Sean wasn't even running.

at the end of the video, the crowd stops outside of the building Sean entered and continued no further. no broken glass. no blood. sean even turned around and was smiling.

is that "thug like" with "no self control"?

what the hell is wrong with calling something what it really is instead of putting another proportion on it to smear somebody.

then you say, and these are your words, not mine: "If I were in Paul's position I would not be happy with their actions. But then...Ron Paul will probably claim he didn't know, or he can't be held responsible. Now, I really don't want someone like that leading the country."

again, if you watch the video, just how was that crowd out of control? if sean were to stop and turn around and face the crowd i seriously doubt they would have assaulted him or anything. their main goal obviously was to razz him, not to assault him. again, where are the projectiles?

in my earlier post, i mentioned Argentinian soccer (now there is a lot of REAL violence at some of those games) when in reality, i shouldn't have compared the two. the video you posted was not unruly. the crowd was not dangerous and nobody got hurt.

how are people supposed to protest these days? what is your motivation other than trying to let everyone know you hate ron paul?

As yourself what that mob might be capable of if their numbers were to increase. Ask yourself if this is representative of the type of leadership America needs"

why don't YOU go back and watch that video again and ask yourself what REALLY HAPPENED!!! forget all the "What If's". your "What If.." scenario didn't play out here.

    one of "his houligans"?

man, you guys are stretching. i'm all for the slamming of hal turner and bill white and all, but this is just plain stupid! if you had tangible examples i'd give you some credibility, but you are employing the same dramatic hyperbole a hal or bill would. making something into something it isn't.

if you think THAT video depicts an unruly mob and you want to stop THAT kind of mobilization, then you are the true neocon taliban whatever!

    am i wrong?

yet: same ol' same ol'...we never hear a fckn "murmur" abt rampaging mega-mobz of niggz....like the one, for instance, that went on a rampage randomly attacking & murdering innocent white people when psycho' nig' thug Rodney King got a gentle "clippin' " from the constabulary!

but: same ol' same ol' from the judæ-bolshevik baby-butcherz of white babies, hunh?

FCK u bitch & FCK u Floyd FckBrain...and FUCK the horse youse rode in on!

  12. "But a mob of people chasing someone, throwing things only confirms that Ron Paul didn't belong in the debate. "

give me the timecode in the video of people throwing things....and then after you provide the timecode please explain why that confirms that ron paul didn't belong in the debate....

"Also the images of Ron Paul's goons chasing a talk show host doesnt convey a message of freedom but something more a kin to the Taliban or neo Nazis, who by the way support Ron Paul."

again, please provide me the timecode of the WORST part of that video. at what point is the WORST being flung upon poor little sean hannity?

in other words, what the hell are you guys talking about?

people are responsible for their own decisions. even if one of those ron paul supporters launched a projectile at hannity, that would in no way implicate ron paul in anything in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  13. anonymous - according to a couple of bloggers and News Bucket, some of the protestors were throwing snowballs and one claimed that rocks were being thrown. If you go to somewhere about 1:15 in the video, you will here someone telling them to stop and another saying "they're only throwing snow." Also, the guy walking with Hannity can be seen brushing Hannity's shoulder off and the female telling the protestors to stop.

While some of his supporters are now condemning what was done, many are applauding them with comments such as...

"...Hannity out into the East River in a bag tied tightly at the top and double knotted to assure freshness. Fish like their food fresh."

Across the internet Ron Paul supporters are threatening and attempting to intimidate anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Now, I'm an old protester myself - and I have no problem with protesting for what you believe in. But, I think we have to look at the whole picture here.

Certainly, we can't hold Ron Paul "responsible," but, we can ask the questions "why does he attract racists, white supremacists, bigots, neo-confederates, militia members, etc.," and "why is it that he refuses to reject their support or their ideology?"

Not only can we raise those questions, but I believe it is incumbent upon us to let others know precisely what is going on here. The aggressiveness of those in support of Paul is reflective of the candidate, himslef - at least in my opinion. And it would seem to me that any serious candidate for an office of such importance would realize how detrimental these people are to him. Unless, of course, he is of the same mindset.

I don't much care for racists, Nazi's or bullies and it appears that Ron Paul's camp is full of all three. Personally, I intend to make that well known and if that makes me a neo-con, so be it.

  15. "Across the internet Ron Paul supporters are threatening and attempting to intimidate anyone who doesn't agree with them. "

Where? I support Ron Paul and i'm not threatening anybody!! show me some examples of Ron Paul supporters threatening and attempting to intimidate. the statement says nothing. back it up. it's easy to point fingers at others.

"anonymous - according to a couple of bloggers and News Bucket, some of the protestors were throwing snowballs and one claimed that rocks were being thrown."

according to a couple of bloggers and News Bucket? huh? and you are going to run with THAT? wtf? the video shows that if any of that crowd wanted to really assault sean, they could have.

"If you go to somewhere about 1:15 in the video, you will here someone telling them to stop and another saying "they're only throwing snow." Also, the guy walking with Hannity can be seen brushing Hannity's shoulder off and the female telling the protestors to stop."

a guy brushes hannity's shoulder? a female telling the protesters to stop? what? and this is an unruly mob? THIS is an attack?

your original article specifically said this mob "attacked" hannity!!! now you are saying somebody threw a few snowballs and you base this claim on some unnamed bloggers and News Bucket and a girl had to tell people to "stop" and you call THIS an "unruly mob"? at the end of the video, you can see Hannity turn around and HE IS SMILING!! the crowd DID NOT enter the building. they DID NOT harm ANYBODY.

I'm not religious, but the supporters of say...Huckabee, would be MUCH more of a threat to my way of life simply because i believe something differently than they do, something that cannot be proven.

i'm with you in being anti-racist, but Ron Paul HAS publically stated that he does not support white supremists. he works with many Jewish people and really doesn't deserve this smear campaign of basically outright lies.

you are trying to smear him based on something that isn't even in the video you referenced.

on hannity's own website he has a spiel about how he can't go out anywhere without being confronted by Ron Paul supporters. is he supposed to NOT be confronted given the crap he spews on his radio and tv shows 5+ nights a week?

when he steps into the public he isn't controlling the debate anymore. he can't push a button to mute anybody. awwww. poor guy

  16. one of the worst things one human can do to another human is blame them for something they didn't do. that's one of the things that pisses me off most about the world we live in today. people are way too easily offended these days and the smallest things get dramatized and completely blown out of proportion. people can't call things what they really are anymore. everything has to be made to be bigger than it really is. hyperbole.

somebody starts a rumor and others run with it with no proof, just blindly believing. i'd like to believe you that people were throwing rocks at sean hannity. i'd like to believe the blogger that wrote it, but don't you think if this REALLY did happen, sean would have mentioned it? he is one of the best when it comes to dramatic hyperbole!!

so a blogger says the crowd were throwing rocks.....

can you see the futile stupidity of all this? the "Drudginess"?

you don't like Ron Paul. that's fine. smear all you want. you are allowed such discourse. you can "Swift Boat" all you want. but i can also point out the stupidity of it all and attempt to keep it real.

Really? they should ALL be neutered? wow!! "despicable display of mob mentatlity..."? ha ha ha. turnaround is fair play. you just said an entire crowd of, in my opinion, peaceful protesters, should be neutered! those are YOUR words!! not Sean Hannity's even!

excuse me Nikki, this is fucked up. read on...this is your own article. after this passage, i'm done. my point is more than proven.

"Being enthusiastic is one thing, but acting like a pack of wild dogs in the name of patriotism is something altogether different."

give me a F'ing break!! a pack of wild dogs would have eaten sean alive and everybody that was with him.

one thing is for sure. i absolutely hate hyperbole. that's all this country is turning into. everybody hyping something. you need this you need that. super consumption. american idol. britney spears. drama drama drama. these are the things this country is thriving on in this day and age and it's absolutely beyond disgusting.

you can't fart in my face and tell me it smells all springtime. fuck that.

you can't post a video that shows the subject of an "attack" smiling and walking untouched into a building and claiming the "wild dogs" should be "neutered" for a "despicable display of mob mentality" and be taken seriously.

get real. you do better focusing on the clowns in the wp bowel movement. you should really focus your energy there, because if this is how you are going to focus that energy on Ron Paul, you are failing quite miserably.

the other thing you don't seem to get is that the White Race is engaged in a RACE WAR with itz main enemy: the jews!

Dr Ron Paul is one manifestation of racially aware white people fighting back ("politics" being simply 'war by a different name'); that's why his supporters consist of "racists, white supremacists, bigots, neo-confederates & militia members" and, doubtless, a large contingent of white people who do not formally belong to ANY of these grougs but agree with some of their claims and who realise that they have been RIGHT ROYALLY SCREWED by the current system whereas certain other groups (ESPECIALLY jews, white elites and certain 'minorities') have done very well indeed thak-you very much!

the WP movement, for all its faults, is the ONLY socio-political "movement" that recognises the ultimate nature of our current situation and proposes the ONLY WORKABLE SOLUTION: complete separation of the races and a National Socialist-type government for a white home-land!

we all gotta live together. i realize how dangerous america is today. you have to watch your back around everybody, not just certain races or religions.

maybe you'll figure it out. i don't know how old you are now but i have different beliefs today than i did 20 years ago.

you probably didn't do too well in your formative years and now you see people around you doing better than you and that's the problem.

we ALL can succeed. it takes sacrifice and education. many don't succeed. some don't care. i've already succeeded. you could have did what i did too. but obviously you didn't because your life is now focused on some other entity. that must really suck. i'll focus on my own life and not worry about who you think is trying to "keep me down". i know who my real friends are

The Hal Turner Show is ended.

The free market votes with its wallet and for seven years, this show has struggled to garner new listeners and financial support. I have grown weary of this battle; my heart just isn't in it anymore.

As such, it is with great regret that I announce the termination of the Hal Turner Show in its present form. If a new show airs at all, it will be entirely different than it is now.

I hereby separate from the "pro-White" movement. I will no longer involve myself in any aspect of it.

why don't u "log on" to vnn?...then YOU might get "a different perspective" on all sorts of things!

    (i'm assuming yr white?)

"doing well in this world" is a pretty relative assessment; for instance: my criteria for "doing well in this world" is NOT NECESSARILY financial or material wealth or how many non-white people i know but having a stable relationship with a good white woman, several white children and, if possible, several more white grand-children....that's TRUE WEALTH!

well...thatz yr assessment of the situation; i happen to think yr wrong; this sort of "fragmented individualism" which has been foisted on previously tight-knit Aryan societies by the usual suspects is exactly WHY "the world is fucked up"; you may be lucky and do "all-right" (@ least: temporarily) but, in the end, the odds are stacked against you and, sooner or lateryr gunna become another 'statistic'(sooner if yr in an invidious and vulnerable situation to start with and later if yr a very smart, very tough cookie graced with many natural abilities and gifts!)....just another defective part of that "fucked up world"...as they say in the "casino business"....the 'house' ALWAYS WINS!

you can go around saying it's only a matter of time before you yourself become a victim (or maybe you already WERE a victim??? who knows? maybe you were somewhere where you were vulnerable and got taken advantage of??).

i realize that i control most of my destiny. of course shit can happen. i'm not going to go about life assuming i'm going to be a victim. i'm going to go through life with a cautious optimism.

like i said, there are over 280 million people in this country. you aren't going to change very many of them if you do change any. it's much less stressful to learn how to live amongst them (not necessarily with them).

there really is no need for me to act like an auxiliary rent a cop and focus my time on perceived racial crimes or concerning myself with where other men put their penises.

life is MUCH more than that. i don't need another opinion on the matter. it has worked for me thus far and i just turned 41. i'll keep with what got me where i am today and not start acting like it's only a matter of time before i am a victim of something.

    get it?

  29. you can go around saying it's only a matter of time before you yourself become a victim (or maybe you already WERE a victim??? who knows? maybe you were somewhere where you were vulnerable and got taken advantage of??)

more or less, i suppose!....i'v been FCKD OVER by ZOG...like MANY white people! (it just took me some time to realise who the real perps were!)

i realize that i control most of my destiny. of course shit can happen. i'm not going to go about life assuming i'm going to be a victim. i'm going to go through life with a cautious optimism

    good luck!
    (yr gunna need it!)

like i said, there are over 280 million people in this country. you aren't going to change very many of them if you do change any

ohh....we're changing LOTs....the "white power movement" is big & getting bigger every day...not just in the 'Kwa!....in Russia & most of Eastern Europe, for instance, it's HUGE!...to the point that it now controls many areas of the government & bureaucracy....that'll be "on the cards" soon in the US & many other 'western' nations...wait & see!

there really is no need for me to act like an auxiliary rent a cop and focus my time on perceived racial crimes or concerning myself with where other men put their penises

if white people choose to be "race traitors", then, of course, that's their business but every-thing in this world has onsequences....every cause has an effect....and, one day, when we take over, a price will hafta be paid for that.....we put our race first & fore-most over & above almost every-thing else...."kith, kin & kind"....first, last & always! (just like most other "races" do too, BTW!)....we believe that, without our white racial identity, we are NOTHING!...just "easy pickings" for our racial enemies.....as one of yr founders famously remarked: we all hang together or we all hang separately!

life is MUCH more than that. i don't need another opinion on the matter. it has worked for me thus far and i just turned 41. i'll keep with what got me where i am today and not start acting like it's only a matter of time before i am a victim of something

the trouble with that "comfortable little philosophy" is that the world is NOT goin' to stay like it is for very much longer....the CRUNCH! is comin'!...when that happens, i, for one, intend to be "on the right side of history"!

    get it?

yeah...i "get it"....yr basically the same as all the other un-fortunate "goyim" out there...you "can't see the wood for the trees" & have no idea who yr real enemies are!....the trouble with that mind-set, of course, is that yr cosy little existence can be obliterated in an instant and you won't even know WTF happened or WTF done it!

u say yr now 41....hope you reach 50!

the best of British luck to you!

  30. what you are saying is you figured out the right way in life and i figured out the wrong way in life.

me? i know the world is MUCH more complex than that. i will continue as i have. not being a target, being aware and watching out for me and my own and not expecting anything from anybody.

you should try it. it may alleviate a lot of that paranoid stress you lug around 24-7. but hell, you already figured it all out. hopefully you got it right because if you didn't your future can only end three ways: death, jail or reform.

just keep out of my way and my life.

  31. I think we all know where the nonsense of "Ron Paul is a racist" is coming from. I cannot help thinking about pre-Iraq times, when Ron Paul spoke out against the war. Every morning I logged on, hoping the people and the MSM had come to their senses before it was too late. But neo-con thought had blossomed blood-red across America.

I hear a lot of excuses for buying into the lies that were told at the time, but if I knew--me without connections or, at the time, even a BA under my belt--then how did so many not know? Now a good man is being smeared in an attempt to protect the status quo. If Ron Paul spouted the neo-con brand of politics, these same people that attack him over the newsletters would defend him to the death.

I'm a little tired of Ron Paul and his suppoters being called kooks and crazies by the MSM and the neo-cons and their bedfellows. It doesn't do any good to say that I am sane, or that no one I know thinks I'm crazy. I guess Paul and I and others like us are crazy for opposing the war, since the war is such a good thing, right? And I guess the sane ones are those who persist in nation-building and premptive war, since this is the rational course for our country to take, right?

Just this morning I read this on MSNBC: "'Iran's actions threaten the security of nations everywhere,' Bush said. 'So the United States is strengthening our long-standing security commitments with our friends in the Gulf, and rallying friends around the world to confront this danger before it is too late.'" Deja vu.

And this from Clinton: "'We can have this Jesuitical argument about what exactly was meant. But when Chuck Hagel, who helped to draft the resolution said, "It was not a vote for war," What I was told directly by the White House in response to my question, "If you are given this authority, will you put the inspectors in and permit them to finish their job," I was told that's exactly what we intended to do.'” In defense of ignorance.

Sorry, but I'd have to be crazy to buy into politics as usual; that's all the other candidates offer, and I want no part of it.

  32. The liberal attacks on Ron Paul, fueled by a recent hit piece in the New Republic, are so transparently cynical that it almost makes me smile.

    Almost.

To quote James Ridgeway, liberals can be and often are the meanest motherfuckers around. Criticize any of their scared beliefs, then watch out. They'll come at you with anything they've got, doesn't matter if it's truthful, accurate, or even sane. American liberals truly feel that they are humanity's Final Word. If you dispute that, you're a bigot, a hater, a piece of slime that deserves only the nastiest treatment. And baby, you'll get it.

At issue is Ron Paul's supposed racism and queer-phobia, reflected in newsletters that bore his name. Paul has distanced himself from the newsletters, saying that others penned the toxic rhetoric, without his direct knowledge or approval. Maybe Paul's telling the truth. Maybe he's not. Maybe he really does despise those of darker hue and same-sexers. Maybe he's like the worst racist you've ever seen. Maybe he eats black children for breakfast.

Whatever Paul actually believes about minorities and queers is not the real concern here. What bothers liberals, TNR's James Kirchik among them, is that Paul is the only presidential candidate who is seriously running against the state. This includes anti-imperialism and calls to end the Drug War. Given that Hillary and Obama are nowhere near this mindset -- quite the opposite -- means that anyone who is must be a bad person. If those newsletters didn't exist, hit men like Kirchik and the libloggers who support him would find something else to smear Paul with. Because, at bottom, they oppose any dismantling of the war state (recall Kos' shitting all over Kucinich). They simply want their preferred candidates to run the machine instead.

For TNR, there's another angle to its anti-Paul attack: Israel. Paul wants to end U.S. military aid to Israel, and is critical of Israeli aggression (he's also critical of Hezbollah and Hamas, but that doesn't count). This simply won't do for Democrats and many liberals, who either support Israeli violence and occupation, or are at best mum on the topic. When Israeli fighter jets were pounding Lebanon in 2006, it took weeks for leading libloggers to type the slightest negative word, which for them was "disproportionate." It was okay to bury Lebanese in rubble, just so long as it wasn't too much rubble. By opposing this and other uses of American tax dollars to kill and maim Arabs, Ron Paul shows that he's probably anti-Semitic as well.

The funny thing about TNR attacking Paul for being racist is that TNR has published plenty of racist musings itself. Martin Peretz alone contributed much of this, his belief that the "primitive" Palestinians are genetically and culturally incapable of achieving peace (for which no one is to blame, added Peretz in a tender moment) merely one of many racist screeds that TNR had no problem pushing. Then there was former editor Andrew Sullivan inviting Charles Murray to explain at length his "Bell Curve" theory in TNR's pages, a decision that Sullivan defended by writing, "The notion that there might be resilient ethnic differences in intelligence is not, we believe, an inherently racist belief." Of course not. Ron Paul, on the other hand . . .

I might be mistaken, but so far as I know, Ron Paul has not left the campaign trail to oversee the killing of a black man. Liberal hero Bill Clinton did in 1992, flying back to Arkansas from New Hampshire to witness Rickey Ray Rector take the lethal needle. (Since Clinton was our first black president, did that constitute black-on-black violence?) Clinton also expanded the police and prison state, in which a large number of African-Americans are trapped, and shredded the safety net for the poor, among whom reside many African-Americans. Does this make Bill Clinton a racist? Hush yo' mouf!

Racism isn't Paul's only sin. According to Kirchik, those newsletters exhibited acute paranoia:

"[S]pecifically, the brand of anti-government paranoia that festered among right-wing militia groups during the 1980s and '90s. Indeed, the newsletters seemed to hint that armed revolution against the federal government would be justified. In January 1995, three months before right-wing militants bombed the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, a newsletter listed 'Ten Militia Commandments,' describing 'the 1,500 local militias now training to defend liberty' as 'one of the most encouraging developments in America.' It warned militia members that they were 'possibly under BATF [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms] or other totalitarian federal surveillance' and printed bits of advice from the Sons of Liberty, an anti-government militia based in Alabama--among them, 'You can't kill a Hydra by cutting off its head,' 'Keep the group size down,' 'Keep quiet and you're harder to find,' 'Leave no clues,' 'Avoid the phone as much as possible,' and 'Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.'"

Yikes. Scary stuff. Sane people know that there is no American surveillance state -- or there wasn't one during the hallowed Clinton era, when all that crazy militia activity was taking place. According to liberal history, police state measures (torture, too) only occur during Republican presidencies, the past seven years being the most recent example. For Paul's newsletter to say otherwise is simple lunacy.

I'll tell you this: I've studied various strands of American right wing political philosophy and beliefs, and have had many conversations with rightists of different temperaments, and when it comes to seriously defending First and Fourth Amendment rights (what remain, anyway), I'll stand with libertarians like Ron Paul. I may not agree with most of his beliefs, nor that of the anti-statist right overall, but I know that Paul and others like him aren't looking to tap my phone or break down my door in the middle of the night. Think the Branch Davidians were paranoid?

Then vote Hillary or Obama. And sleep tight.
