CHRISTIAN TERRORISM - via Leonard Pitts

Leonard Pitts Jr. / Syndicated columnist

The Hutaree militia, perpetrators of 'Christian terrorism'

The term "Christian terrorism" will seem jarring to those who've grown comfortable regarding terrorism as something exclusive to Islam, writes Leonard Pitts Jr. The Hutaree Christian militia, however, seemed more than willing to view murder as a religious act.

A few words about Christian terrorism.

And I suppose the first words should be about "those" words: "Christian terrorism." The term will seem jarring to those who've grown comfortable regarding terrorism as something exclusive to Islam.

That this is a self-deluding fallacy should have long since been apparent to anyone who's been paying attention. From Eric Rudolph's bombing of the Atlanta Olympics, a gay nightclub and two abortion clinics to the so-called Phineas Priests who bombed banks, a newspaper and a Planned Parenthood Office in Spokane, from Matt Hale soliciting the murder of a federal judge in Chicago to Scott Roeder's assassination of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, from brothers Matthew and Tyler Williams murdering a gay couple near Redding, Calif., to Timothy McVeigh destroying a federal building and 168 lives in Oklahoma City, we have seen no shortage of "Christians" who believe Jesus requires — or at least allows — them to commit murder.

If federal officials are correct, we now have one more name to add to the dishonor roll. That name would be Hutaree, a self-styled Christian militia in Michigan, nine members of which have been arrested and accused of plotting to kill police officers in hopes of sparking an anti-government uprising.

Many of us would doubtless resist referring to plots like this as Christian terrorism, feeling it unfair to tar the great body of Christendom with the actions of its fringe radicals. And here, we will pause for Muslim readers to clear their throats loudly...CONTINUED HERE

  1. That loser, as many in the fringe left, continually commits the Ultimate Sin. And I'm not even religious.

.... To humanize a foreign terrorist and compare them to an extremely small handful of Christians in this country over an extended period of time.

And for some reason he only mentioned Christians that have committed crimes in this country and COMPLETELY left out people in organizations such as the Weathermen Underground and the Black Panthers which weren't known as Christian groups.

This guy has a real hatred for those who wish to follow that religion. I wonder why his mind got so twisted up in that to the point where he would write an article in an attempt to demonize those who are Christians in the United States fully understanding that he was leaving out MANY groups and individuals who have committed horrible crimes in the name of what they believe.....most often, not in the name of Christianity.

He's living with quite a bit of resentment and hate.

  2. You are talking about someone living with a lot of "resentment and hate?" Hooch, Please! You continue to bring up the crimes of groups from decades ago. I think today we KNOW who the main culprits are. Quit living in the past, please and try to keep up with this present day maddness. The violence wasn't right then - but that doesn't make it right now either.

  3. Tell me how "Christian" Matt Hale's solicitation of murder is worse than the countless "non-Christian" serial killers in the 90's and 2000's. There are plenty of them that are NOT IN THE PAST.

How about "Christian" Scott Roeder. How is him killing a doctor that kills children any worse than the registered democrat Anthrax killer, Bruce Ivins?

How is Matthew and Tyler Williams murdering a gay couple near Redding, Calif., worse than liberal Joseph Stack flying his plane into the IRS building?

Or worse than the registered Democrat, Pentagon Shooter John Patrick Bedell?

My point is made sweet cheeks. I'm not seeing how "present" Christians are any worse than "present" Democrats or Republicans if I can think of any.

  4. Leonard Pitts is living with quite a bit of hate and deep resentment towards religion in the United States.

It's clear that his article was nothing more than a weak attempt to attack American Christians and sympathize with Muslims... as he intentionally left out the significantly higher probability that a criminal in the United States NOT BE A CHRISTIAN but rather a fringe lunatic who wishes to carry out their killings based on their twisted since of logic.

I would suggest that Leonard Pitts get some therapy because he has some very deep seated issues. This type of attempted trickery within his writings suggests serious mental issues on his part.

  7. I bet if you count there has been more gay on Christian real political terrorism than the reverse. They just won't call it terrorism when homosexuals burn down churches. Even now the Rainbow Fascists are making it impossible for Christians to practice their religion and to hold their traditional beliefs.
